GST Services FAQs
Common questions about GST registration, returns, reconciliation and compliance.
Who may need GST registration?
GST registration depends on aggregate turnover, the nature of supply, the State or Union Territory from which supplies are made, and whether any compulsory-registration provision applies.
For suppliers engaged exclusively in the supply of goods, the registration threshold is generally ₹40 lakh of aggregate turnover in a financial year, while a ₹20 lakh threshold applies in specified States and Union Territories. Aggregate turnover is calculated on a PAN-India basis.
For suppliers of services, the threshold is generally ₹20 lakh, with a ₹10 lakh threshold in specified States.
Certain persons may require registration irrespective of the normal turnover threshold, while exemptions are available in some cases. The actual registration requirement should therefore be reviewed based on the nature and location of the business.
What is GSTR-1A?
GSTR-1A is a facility for adding or amending specified outward-supply details of the current tax period after filing GSTR-1 and before filing GSTR-3B.
What is IFF under the QRMP Scheme?
The Invoice Furnishing Facility (IFF) is an optional facility available to eligible taxpayers under the QRMP Scheme. It generally allows specified B2B invoices and related credit or debit notes to be furnished during the first two months of a quarter, enabling recipients to receive the relevant invoice information earlier. It is not applicable to taxpayers who are filing GSTR-1 monthly.
What is GSTR-2B reconciliation?
GSTR-2B reconciliation compares purchase records with GSTR-2B to identify missing invoices, value differences, duplicate records and Input Tax Credit mismatches requiring review.
Who needs to file GSTR-9 and GSTR-9C?
GSTR-9: GSTR-9 is the annual GST return containing consolidated information relating to outward supplies, inward supplies, input tax credit, tax liability and tax paid during the financial year. It is generally applicable to regular taxpayers having aggregate annual turnover exceeding ₹2 crore, subject to exemptions and turnover-based conditions notified by the Government. The filing requirement and due date may vary based on applicable notifications.
GSTR-9C – Reconciliation Statement: Self-certified annual reconciliation statement containing a comparison of figures reported in GSTR-9 with the audited annual financial statements. Applicable to regular taxpayers having aggregate annual turnover exceeding ₹5 crore.
Where can I check GST return filing due dates?
GST return and payment due dates depend on the return type, filing frequency and applicable notifications. For current FY 2026–27 dates, refer to our Compliance Calendar FY 2026–27.
Can GST registration details be changed after registration?
Yes. Authorised changes to GST registration particulars can be made through the appropriate amendment process. The process differs for core and non-core fields.
Can a cancelled GST registration be restored?
Where a GST registration has been cancelled by the proper officer, revocation may be available in eligible cases through the prescribed process.
